A/C Tune-Ups May Prevent Furnace Failures

What we thought we’d do is expose a common situation where neglecting the maintenance of your air conditioner can actually shorten the life of your furnace.

Here’s what happens, when your AC is running pulling moisture out of the air in your home it collects on your evaporator coil inside your furnace. This occurs when the air passing through the coil is being “cooled”.

What is an evaporator coil?

An evaporator coil is a vital part of any heating or cooling system. It is usually found in an air conditioner, because evaporator coils are particularly good at absorbing heat when air is passed through their system. Evaporator coils look like a series of pipes. A furnace, central air conditioner, or other air-modifying device passes the household air through the evaporator coil, which absorbs the air’s heat and sends it back into the house as cold air via a series of air ducts. The two main components of an air conditioner are usually the condenser and the evaporator coil.

Moisture drips into a pan above the furnace burner and blower motor. The water then goes down your drain line to the drain in the floor. Ideally, this line is always free flowing. When it gets plugged, the water build up and begins to overflow onto the burners & blower motor which can cause premature failure.

This occurs undetected by you the homeowner. So the question you have to ask, is this happening with my system. The solution is having an AC Tune Up.
